"Take a look, it's in a book. . . "

So it begins.

Well, hello there.

Today I made the conscious decision to make a blog. About books. (Because clearly, this has never been attempted before.) I've kept blogs before and have had web sites before (if you count late 90's GeoCities/Angelfire webpages about boybands *cough*) but I've never had a coherent, committed blog about a passion of mine. Some people love dogs, some people knit, crochet or love celebrities.

Me? I'm the Book Nerd

I've been an avid reader for as long as I can remember. I am an only child and most of my younger years were spent alone, in my room, hidden behind whatever R.L. Stine or Ann M. Martin book I could grab. I carried around mini-backpacks full of books, piled them around my room, organized them over and over again on my bookshelves and even devised a library system for my less-fortunate-yet-still-willingly-literate friends. (Though my love of my books soon got the best of me and I refused to loan them out after a while.)

I also loved school. I won't lie. I was the kid the teacher always chose to have read aloud because it was painful trying to hear the other kids sound out words that I already knew backward, forward and inside-out. I was the one who made recommendations to other children at the Scholastic Book Fairs.

"No, not THAT book. It has such an obnoxiously predictable ending!"

I was the one reveling in the fact that Geordi LaForge from Star Trek: The Next Generation had a t.v. show that introduced me to not only new books, but new authors and other kids who loved to read. (Other Book Nerds!) AND WE GOT TO WATCH IT IN CLASS. ALL THE TIME.

"OMG, OMG, shhhh! It's starting!!"

My love of books waned only slightly over the years, morphing from a dependency to somewhat of an obsession as I got older. I would spend hours roaming Barnes & Noble with my father, getting lost among seemingly endless shelves of seemingly endless pages. Once I learned to drive, I did this on my own - finding every used book store in the tri-county area to browse through on rainy days. I longed for the used-book smell, the sound of pages turning, the feeling of accomplishment that came from bringing home a stack of "gently-used" second-hand books for the price of ONE new book.

Fast forward to high school. (Still a book nerd.) Then college. (Yep, still nerdy.) And here I sit, almost 30 years-old and still not letting my inner Book Nerd be snobbish about what I love (and hate) about certain books.

So! I will use this blog to share (with whomsoever is willing to read it) the good, the bad and the "WTFis this shit?!" of literature and/or other forms of printed word. I thank you in advance for reading it, if you so choose.

Please feel free to read along, broaden your horizons, comment, question and explore. . .
"... but don't take MY word for it."
